Love at its purest - Mooga Manasulu

Maanu maakunu kaanu
Rayi rappanu kaanekaanu
Maamulu manishini nenu
Nee manishini nenu!

Naakuu oka manasunnadi
Nalugurila aasunnadi
Kalalu kane kallunnay
Avi kalatha padite neellunnayi...

Pemidanu techi vottini vesi
Samurunu posi bema supeva!
Intha sesi eliginchenduku
Enakamunduladeva!

Madisi thoti yelakolam aadukunte baaguntadi
Manasu thoti aadaku maava.. irigipote atakadu malla...

Maanu maakunu kaanu
Rayi rappanu kaanekaanu
Maamulu manishini nenu
Nee manishini nenu!

I always feel so bad when I see this movie. So many innocent people, so much emotion and a cruel fate. It's an old telugu movie and it is a typical plot but this movie always is always one of my favourites.

And this is one of my favourite songs! Beautiful song, touching lyrics - simple words, straight from the heart!

Whatever happened to leading a simple life! We want to complicate things. I mean some of the new songs now are....I don't know they try too much! Trying too hard to rhyme, to sound catchy and smart and cheeky! They are completely out of place, no where related to the story; simply there because a movie should have six songs, as if there's a rule!

Anyway I don't want to complain more. I'm not a poet and I don't know anything about it. But I can tell when I did or didn't like something.

I'll go back to listening to that song! :-)

  1. Excellent lyrics.. hats off to Aacharya Aathreya... amazing personality... he is a god to poets like my dad.. The best part of most of his lyrics is that, they are soooo simple, even an illiterate man can understand and percieve the meaning very easily. Someone (of course u know who) tried to remake this movie, twice in the last 2 decades of telugu cinema... I don't understand why did they even try?!?!?

But, sandhya, i don't completely agree with you that the lyrics these days are that worse... Of course most are... but some are truly still amazing. You know who I am reffering to here...

Sirivennela... amazing creativity.. One of my favourite examples... in the movie VARSHAM... there are two songs he uses two new words to describe to RAIN DROPS...

    sinuku ravvalu, &
    neeti mullu

he could have just gone ahead with "vaana chinukulu" .. but he creates these words and just try to understand their meaning and u know how good they are..

i can go on listing hundreds of examples from movies of the golden era of telugu cinema, like swathi muthyam, sirivennela, sagara sangamam, aakali rajyam etc etc etc..

Even in last 4-5 years, apart from Sirivennela, there have been reasonable efforts by directors like Sekhar kammula (godavari & anand) with songs like uppongele godavari, Krishna Vamsi with songs like "alanaati ramachandrudu" from murari. In this specific song, there is a line

"putthadi bommaku pusthelu kaduthu purushuni muni vellu,
pachhani medapai vechhaga raasenu chilipi rahasyaalu.
    nelaku jaarina taarakalai muthayaala talambralu,
iddari talapunu muddaga tadipina thuntari jalakalu.."

sooo romantic, so beautiful and yet sooo simple...

and some even simpler ones like in Anaganaga oka roju,

    right o, left o, left o right o,
    munduko venkakko, pai paiko kindikko,
    asalenduko ekkadiko,
    just go go go go...

all that song is supposed to do was to say how out of control the girl was... and it did just that...

i promise u sandhya... if u listen carefully to songs these days, at least 10-20% of them have good lyrics... not all are that bad... not just yet... :)

    and finally quoting one of my fav lines;

    "anDaa danDaa unTaaDani
    koodanDa raamuni nammukunTe

    anDaa danDaa unTaaDani
    koodanDa raamuni nammukunTe

    gunDe leni manishalle
    ninu konDa koonalakodilesaaDaa???"

HATS OFF to kaasinathuni vishwanath, Aathreya, SBP, Janaki,Ilayaraaja and last but not the least, Kamal Hassan & Radhika.

Mind you! FOUR of those names from this master piece are not even telugu people!!! only the other three are... :)

  3. Hey I'm definitely NOT saying all the new songs are bad! I was simply wondering why no one ever uses simple language anymore, that's all!
